I am blessed, truly I am. For more than five years (as of this writing) I have been friends with Jared and Angela Okoth. Somewhere around Spring of 2017, I met Jared at a men’s gathering and he invited me to visit a home group that he helped start outside of Humboldt, my hometown. This was an eclectic bunch of believers and since then – on and off – I have enjoyed their fellowship. We have moved from place to place, but now, we gather at his home in the Jackson area.
When we meet, we have singing, worship, prayers together, and devotionals / sermons brought by different members of this unique group. One aspect that I have always enjoyed is the international flavor that is inherent to the group. In my association with them, I have met believers from many different cultures, including: Kenya, Republic of Congo, India, China, Korea, Mexico, Mongolia, Philippines, England, and the US. I am sure I missed a few! I really really REALLY enjoy gathering with believers from different cultures.
Now, on with the story… see the pics below to get an idea of what this gathering is like. On this specific day, we celebrated two birthdays, introduced a new friend to the group, prayed for our country and the world, and I even had the opportunity to sing and share a message from my heart about the Holy Spirit. It is a good thing to share life with people who have different perspectives on the Christian faith than yourself. It can help firm up your own core beliefs and stretch “spiritual gray areas.” I hope that makes sense to you… it does to me!
PS: in case you are wondering about the title of this post, it is a reference to Jared and Angela’s ministry, “The Light of the Nations International Ministries.”
