Isn’t it hard to block out the static of this Western life and really really focus of our Brother, Jesus? If this thought has not crossed your mind, maybe you need take a step back and consider what I am saying. Just this morning, I saw a note on Facebook where a brother has made the decision to step away from social media and “the expected” to focus on other things, like family and his relationship to our Lord Jesus and real life in general.
I applaud him for this decision and I hope he can tow the line. It is not easy, I know, to ignore the socially accepted norm of modern life and be… different. All of us can succumb to the trap of the expected and squander real opportunities to engage in real life. You know, that thing that requires you to actually talk to people face-to-face.
Yes, social media can be a tool to use to enhance real life engagement… if we manage it well. However, even the most diligent of us can allow it to manage us sometimes. You know it’s true. I could cite examples of how our young people have become – by in large – a generation of restless hermits… disenfranchised, uncomfortable, fearful, and emotionally shallow. Or, I could point out how those in the more mature camp have become digitally pushy, obtuse, tacky, and / or condescending. We ALL have the potential to use digital detachment as a weapon at times, taking pot-shots at people or ideals from the safety of our comfortable little enclaves. Yes we do.
Ok, I think I’ll wrap this up for now. I may use this format to post general NC commentary as things tweak my sensibilities. So, “Coffee and Jesus” will now be a category within my blog. Oh, in case you are asking what Jesus has to do with it, I will try to reference at least one scripture with my own rambling to shed a bit of His Light on the subject being discussed. Oh, and coffee is a reference to the likelihood that I will be typing these little blog posts in the morning as I enjoy infusing coffee into the wake-up process.
