There are days when I just feel compelled to take a long walk in the city and observe the people, commune with God as I walk, and reflect on where I am and where I am going in this life. Can you relate? This is a gallery of photos from yesterday’s walk. Maybe it will give you a feeling for what it would be like to take that walk with me. Below are a few thoughts from my walk.
First, it was a beautiful day for a walk like this. I made a decision to start out by going to the highest hill in the city center where Spilberk Castle sits. It is a pretty good exercise for the body to get to the top and when you get there, it is a good overlook to view the city from a different perspective. There were a lot of people wandering around up there and I also came upon a wedding party as they were gathering to observe a union of two people making a commitment to each other.
After a bit, I decided to sit on a park bench and read scripture for a while as I enjoyed a view of Saint Peter & Paul Cathedral in the distance. The scripture that I have been coming back to a lot these days is from Matthew 7:7-11. When I read these verses, I often wonder if Christians today actually believe what they read when they see these words which Jesus spoke many many years ago. Ask, seek… knock. Can it really be that easy? I am sure that we can agree that there are inferences here which are covered in other areas of scripture. Such as… “if you abide in me and I abide in you.” (John 15:7) I fear for many of our brothers and sisters who are, for the most part, self reliant, this is not so easy to do. When you can rely on your own personal (fleshly) wisdom, strength, will power, and worldly goods… well, it is not as easy as it sounds to rely on Jesus who is the true source of our spiritual strength, wisdom, will and purpose. Let us all breath a big sigh and do our best to put aside the things that the world esteem as “worthy” and focus on what Jesus deems as “worthy.” If we can do this, we have accomplished much. Can I get an amen?
