Yesterday was a very busy day, and this post is about a “day in the life” of a CEF local director (me). Granted, not every day is this busy, but you would be surprised at how many are. I am NOT writing this to try and build up my image or status in your mind, not at all. I just thought that you, my random and adventuresome readers, might find it interesting. Now, onward and upward!
Let’s handle this through a few bullet points and photos, both will follow the order of the day.
Around 6:20am… I headed out to go to a men’s gathering in Jackson at Englewood Baptist Church. This is where Gary Taylor leads a long-standing Maximum Man gathering. I have been a part of this diverse group of Christian men for seven to eight years.
8:18am… I arrived at my office to help one of our local committee people get setup to take a CEF online course called TCE-1 which stands for Teaching Children Effectively, Level-1. This is an outstanding 30-hour course that focuses on evangelism and children. I also made a couple of important phone calls to a friend of mine who works for the TBMB.
10:45am… I headed out the office door, driving to Paris to help with a CEF duty that I was recruited to handle. I stopped briefly in McKenzie to grab a burger and drink for the road.
1:15pm… pulled into the parking lot of Fairview Baptist Church in Paris to do a CEF evaluation of a class practicum for a colleague there. This was a CEF “party club” with a group of around 14 children and the CEF team that presented it. It was fun and they did a good job.
3:10pm… I hit the road again for about an hour and twenty-minute drive back to Jackson. On the way, I made a phone call (hand’s free Bluetooth, of course) to another fellow that I know in the TBMB to check in with a potential agreement between CEF and TBMB. It was good catching up with this brother and we had an awesome discussion.
4:40pm… I got back to Jackson in time to check in at Thelma Barker Elementary School to have a quick discussion with the YMCA aftercare director there. We are in the process of developing an agreement with the Y to offer a Good News Club at Thelma Barker. Lord willing, we will get it started within a couple of weeks.
5:15pm… I got back to my office to do a few end-of-the-day tasks and get ready to go to a home group that is hosted at a good friend’s home in north Jackson.
6:15pm… arrived at the Gathering where a diverse group of believers meets on most Thursday evenings to worship together, listen to a presentation of the Word, fellowship, and enjoy a little food. Ken, love you brother… you did an awesome job of encouraging us with God’s word last night. I also had an opportunity to offer some encouragement to a dear sister, Kate. Life is chaos, God is the firm foundation, Jesus is the anchor… you got this.
10:15pm… got back home and relaxed a bit before bedtime. A long but blessed day for a portly older guy! Right? 😉
Yesterday, I was on the campus of my alma mater, Union University. The occasion was a student ministry expo, where nonprofits are invited to set up a table and talk to students about ministry opportunities. I, along with a new CEF colleague, Marty King, engaged several students with general information about CEF and our need…
This last posting about our recent bus trip (vacation) will highlight our tour through Hershey, PA, the amazing Chocolate Factory, and our viewing of David at Sight and Sound Theater. If you have never visited a Sight and Sound Theater, you really should try to do it sometime. Dawn and I watched the presentation of…
Yesterday was a good day. I changed my regular “personal ministry” day to Tuesday in order to allow me to celebrate my birthday with Dawn and eat, etc. Monday would have been my Mission Jackson fast day, but I moved it to Tuesday. That concluded my current commitment of prayer and fasting for Mission Jackson….
I am amazed at how social programming has stuck with so many people. This morning, I was shopping with my dear wife for our normal weekly groceries and household items. You can probably guess where we were shopping from the photo used in the header. My commentary is not designed to condemn this retail establishment…
Last night at the Gathering, our younger sister, Kate, shared a powerful devotional / message. Kate is a highly motivated, educated, and direct person… and I use those descriptors with a warm heart 🙂 She is passionate about her faith. I am certain that is one of the reasons our eclectic little fellowship loves her…
