It has been a very long time since I was impacted by a movie like I was tonight. Dawn and I went to see the movie about human trafficking called “Sound of Freedom.” The movie focused on the more insidious form of that evil… child trafficking. The movie is, and should be, an eye opener for the masses. I dare say that most people do not have a clue about the seriousness or scope of this wickedness. Human trafficking and slavery have been an issue for thousands of years, but most of us would be surprised to hear that there are more people living in slavery that any other time in history.
I know a little about it because I have attended seminars that dive into the dark waters of trafficking, one of them led by an FBI agent from Memphis. Also, I lived in Eastern Europe for a few years and it is especially very real in that part of the world. I recall walking in Bucharest, Romania with a ministry partner and hearing our young translator tell us that her dad required her to be home before dark because many young women had disappeared in that part of the city. Old vans zoom up and people grab them and take them away to be sold into sex trafficking syndicates.
Back to the movie. It was well done and did a good job of bringing light to the issue without making the result too dark or troubling – at least for me. During the credits, the main actor, Jim Caviezel, made a plea for the theater goers to help spread the word about this important movie. They even have a QR Code to allow you to pay for tickets for other people who may not be able to afford to go. Personally, I do not think this was just an attempt to make more money for the production company. I believe they are sincere in their desire to spread the news and bring widespread awareness to the issue. If you are able, you may want to help do this too.
Try to go see this movie and open your mind / heart to the reality of the world that we live in. As it said in the movie… “God’s children aren’t for sale.” Amen.
