Last night I was blessed to share in a special service that was designed to introduce a potential recovery church to Humboldt, TN. I say “potential” because it is still in the process of being vetted and approved by the association of churches that shepherds the property.
The property is the old Maranatha Baptist Church and it has been closed for over two years. It is not a big, fancy church, but has good bones, if you will. I remember the days when this church was a vibrant community church, but with time, community change, and lack of interest… its doors were shuttered. Trust me, that last statement was not an attempt to throw stones at anybody, NO… this is just a reality in the world we live in today. The story is way too familiar.
However, now, if everyone involved can come to an agreement, there is a possibility to not only start a new recovery church in the area, but once again offer “church” to the immediate community. Isn’t that what church should be about? Reaching the community that surrounds the property first, then advance into the other three fields of service. Right? So, that is enough commentary for now. Look at the photos below to get an idea of what the service was like, the variety of people who attended, and the tone of the service. Then, maybe, you will attend a service there when it is offered – next time 🙂
