Dear brother or sister, do you care? Do you see those faces, void of concern, tainted by a harsh childhood, or filled with dull gray drug-induced blank stares? They are all around us. You may have pushed them into the shadows of your mind, hiding them from YOUR reality… but they are there.
Usually, we cringe at the thought of engaging those who are “not like us.” Specifically, those drug addicts, boozers, losers, or dregs of society… they “probably” deserve the status that they now occupy, right? This is a good spot to drop in a verse of scripture to gain our collective attention:
Maybe you were one of those dregs of society or maybe you looked like a well-put-together up-and-comer. Regardless, you were a lost soul, filthy and sinful in the eyes of a Holy God. Your sins may have been worn on your sleeve for the whole world to see -or- they may have been neatly tucked away in the recesses of your mind. Unlike the fictional Eye of Sauron, God actually, honestly, sees every hidden thing about you. So, dear believer friend, try not to be filled with your own perceived self-worth today and don’t fasten those blinders to your head. See the hurting and disillusioned around you because they need Jesus just like you and I do. Think about it. Give them Jesus!
