This morning, I felt myself being pushed over the edge about the current state of our nation… the willful ignorance of reality for the sake of the political collective… the CEO mentality of many of our church leaders… wars and rumors of wars… printing money as if the value were no better than toilet paper… a comprehensive list of my angst could fill this page.
If there is no ultimate objective truth in our society, we have no hope for a bright future. And if “your” truth contradicts “my” truth, who gets to arbitrate the outcome of the clash that will come from the collision of the two? Do you trust your government to judge these things? What if your political party is no longer in control? What if your version of fair play is overthrown by an army of angry illegal aliens who are not seeking asylum, but rather are seeking to capitalize on your supposed generosity? Before I sound like all hope is lost, let me give you a tool to combat the cultural norm and assure you of a Hope for the future.
Consider these verses:
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4: 4-9
So… for the believer, things may look bad out there. The culture war, fueled by the devil through spiritually blinded people, looks like it is about to engulf us all. Yet, think of what these verses tell us.
Fill your mouths with rejoicing, directed to the real Conquerer. Be civil when you speak to people, don’t look for arguments… speak the truth in love. As hard as it may be, do not let the crazy culture and ignorant people raise your blood pressure Just smile and know that “Jesus has got this.” Seek peace that only comes from communing with your Lord God through a relationship with His Son, empowered and fortified through His Spirit.
Lastly, instead of filling your mind with all the negative garbage that main stream media throws at you, fill your mind with prayer for the world, adoration for the King of Kings, and anything worthy of praise. Jesus is coming soon… amen.
