Valentine’s gatherings at church can be fun! Last night was a good example of that. Dawn and I signed up to join fellow Englewood Baptist Church, North Campus congregants, for a couple’s date night. The evening was simple but fun. We started with a lovely candle-lit meal… mmm… bacon-wrapped chicken breast tenders, smoked pork loin, loaded baked smashed potatoes, green beans, salad, and rolls. Gosh, it was tasty!
Next, we watched a few brave couples gather on stage to play a version of the “dating game.” We also had some “table games” to help entertain us and finished with a few more couples playing another game on-stage with “interesting” tasks that had to be completed within the context of a friendly competition. 🙂 Hey Jon, good sport!
Dawn and I are not always willing to attend such events, but we are happy we did last night. Now, don’t get me wrong, we are not snooty or stuck-up. No, mostly we are a bit reserved and not comfortable with big groups of people with whom we are unfamiliar. Yes, even in church life, it takes time to get to know people, and we still feel a bit disconnected at our church… but we are working on it.
I’ll conclude with a few photos and two additional comments. One, it was a weird feeling to realize that in this group of people, we were suddenly “the old couple” when it was determined that we had been married longer than any couple in the room… 40 years. My, my. Secondly, we chose to sit with a couple who were alone at a table, and it was a pleasure to get to know them. They, too, felt a bit like newbies at EBC.N and do not have a lot of friends in the area. They are from California and have lived in the Medina area for a little over a year. They are good people and fellow believers, so I am glad we sat with them and enjoyed the evening together. Deke and Kristy, good to meet you!
I might add that another couple sat with us too. They are long-time Englewood members, so thank YOU for joining us last night. You made an effort to sit with some relative strangers, and we appreciate that. Blessings to all. Now for the pics:
