Today is a special day in my homeland… for more than one reason. First, it is my dear wife’s birthday. I love her and I am glad that we have been able to celebrate another birthday together on this earth. However, this post is mostly about the second reason for my post. This is July 4th and here in the USA, we celebrate Independence Day today.
As a child, I recall how our public schools placed proper focus on the meaning of the day. We were encouraged to understand the cost associated with our freedom. When we waved the Grand Old Flag, we got that special feeling… that swell of pride and patriotism in our hearts. For those who still believe that America was founded because of the desire and determination to exercise religious liberty and worship the One true God, we also celebrate religious liberty and the right to continue worshiping that same “One true God.” As part of that worship, we are compelled to proclaim the Gospel to the nations and offer the teachings of Jesus as a viable alternative to secular lifestyles, greed driven motives, and godlessness.
Unfortunately, many of our countrymen (and women) have lost touch with this wellspring of hope… the hope that comes from following Jesus. Many have even lost the capacity to feel that old sense of patriotic pride. Some have completely lost their way, their moral compass, their fear of God. Even though I see appalling images of Americans trampling or burning our great flag,, I still hold hope in my heart for a revival in our land… a revival of patriotism, of Christian purpose, and of a unified spirit. Join me in praying toward this end. I fully believe that Jehovah God is still ready to honor 2 Chronicles 7:14. He will do His part, if we will do ours. Amen.
