So, tonight I went to a Harambee which is a Kenyan tradition rooted in community self-help. The term means “all pull together” in Swahili, Kenya’s national language. My friends, Jared and Angela Okoth were part of this local fundraiser event. They joined with another missionary couple, Robert and Jan Rodriguez, to do the event. Both couples are engaged in ministry in Kenya and have a lot of common goals for the future.
The event featured a “ministry market” that had a lot of African themed items for purchase and a silent auction, nice meal, and presentations by both couples. Oh, there was also some lively praise and worship music as well. The Harambee was hosted by Pastor Gary Martin and First Assembly of God in Jackson, TN. I enjoyed the evening and was happy to see a lot of my new and old friends in attendance.
