Often, I find myself reflecting on the past few years of my life and wonder exactly what the meaning of my journey has been… and of course, where my path may be leading me. I have mentioned this before but it bears repeating. I have come to see life as a book in which the Lord is writing a storyline. We sometimes look at a specific thing in our life as the BIG plot and sort of stop worrying about the BIG picture. If we are not careful, we might even lapse into a state of complacency. We may get comfortable with things and not see the next chapter unfolding.
At this stage in our lives, Dawn and I are once again trying to anticipate what this new chapter may have waiting for us but, of course, we cannot see the exact text that the Lord is penning. We must simply be diligent with what He presents to us today and patiently wait for tomorrow.
Another analogy might be to consider the photo that I used for this article. We are traveling this road that the Lord has for us and we can only see so far ahead to give us time to anticipate what may be coming at us. Yet, at the same time, we can see the past in the rear view mirror. We remember what we just passed, what we just experienced, what difficulties we encountered. However, we had better stay focused on what lies ahead rather than what lay behind or we may have an accident! Make sense? I think so. So, even though at times this journey has been a lonely one and that it “seems” that the people and places you are fond of are simply not on life’s radar anymore, God is an ever present source of comfort. As humans (even believing humans), we often forget that fact. So, may the Lord give us peace and encouragement when we need it most. May He be the one that we know sticks closer than a brother and may we be wise enough to trust in that reality.
Be careful for the potholes of life my friends but keep pressing on… amen.
