A few days ago, I was invited to attend a Sunday evening service at Poplar Heights Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. I have developed a good relationship with their pastor, Richard Bragg, and I can say that we have a lot of the same views about modern church life and the need to be out in our community reaching the lost “right where they are.”
On this specific night, I invited my dear friends, Jared and Angela Okoth to join me. When we arrived at the church, we discovered that Mi Sook Choi has been attending there since her family decided to accept a call to pastor a church in California. Pastor Choi has moved there to get established while Mi Sook is waiting for their house to sell and then join her husband in San Diego. It was a great time being together and enjoying a service at Poplar heights.
The speaker for the evening was a young man (sorry but I cannot recall his name) from Teen Challenge who shared his testimony about being delivered from drug addiction and finding purpose in his life through the power of Jesus Christ. Many people shared testimonies and lots of folks came to the alter to pray for various things. I sense that God is stirring the spiritual pot at Poplar Heights and something good is bound to come from it.
Here are a few photos that I took that night to give you a sense of what it was like.
