Although the radical warped culture has demonized the police in recent years, We should shoe them proper respect for what they do for us. This hits especially close to home with me because I was raised by a policeman. My dad, Ralph Nicholas left his family farm as a young man, served in the Army in Korea, then eventually became a policeman in our hometown. Dad served as a policeman for around 35 years and was one of those people that you would call… “a man’s man.” If you don’t understand what that means, ask an older guy to explain it to you. Gen-X and Gen-Z fellows may not know 🙂
So, the occasion that prompted me to make this post was a gathering of a local prayer circle in Jackson yesterday. I join this prayer circle as I can to lift up situations and people in prayer to our Mighty God. Yesterday, we were remembering the passing of a policeman in the City of Jackson. We paid tribute to Sgt. Warren Olden who died on duty from a massive heart attack. I didn’t know this gentleman personally, but I have heard a lot of good comments about him and his care for the citizens of Jackson, TN. Even though I did not have a personal relationship with Sgt. Olden, I felt compelled to join in and honor his life of service and all who serve us as part of the “thin blue line.”
These men and women deserve our respect and honor. Yes, now and then you may interact with a policeman who is stressed out and may not handle every incident with kid-gloves. However, they are often living under great stress as they deal with people in messed-up circumstances day-by-day. Most regular people can’t handle being cut-off in traffic, much less talk with raving drug addicts and street thugs. So, don’t be so quick to criticize our law enforcement friends. Heck, why don’t you try to thank them or give them a compliment once in a while. God knows, they need it. Amen.
