Roe -v- Wade

As people look back on these days and the current events attached to them, the debate over the potential overturning of Roe -v- Wade will certainly be a big part of the memory landscape. In my life, I have not seen such an state of national confusion and chaos nor such a divide among our people. It truly is a sad day when “some” people vehemently rally around political ideology without even engaging the gray-matter that God gave them. I grow tired of seeing young people parroting slogans and cursing with hate because they wish to get on camera or tell their future children (now that is ironic) how they protested against this or that.

As I have started many conversations lately, my comments and opinions are based on a Christian worldview. If you are reading this message and have a different view, that is your right. However, your right is no more weighty or valuable than my right. Actually, if the Christian worldview IS right… well, you find yourself in opposition to God Almighty, the author of Christian worldview. So, consider whose camp you identify with… God or the devil. Do you really want to take the devil’s hand while lifting a middle-finger to God? Something to think about, eh?

This week, I have had two opportunities to join with Christian brothers to speak up on local / regional television. We gave opinions about Roe -v- Wade and prayed for the Supreme Court of the US, the overturning of the law in question, and the country in general. During the second TV session, we met at the Old Country Store with a young lady from WBBJ-tv. I must say that she was very polite and did not throw any curveballs at us. I opened the session with prayer then Pastor Garry Martin addressed the topic from a spiritual perspective. Brent Lambert, founder and executive director of Birth Choice, then spoke to the realities of how abortion effects the mom, dad, and baby. Brent deals with these issues every day and has a powerful way of expressing his thoughts clearly and without condemnation. Pastor Cartwright followed up with a personal testimony and then we all took time to discuss the abortion issue from different angles and perspectives.

As I wrap this post up, I’d like to point out a few items, then share a few photos. So…

When I see the news and Roe -v- Wade comes up, they typically show scenes of young women protesting in the streets, often shouting vulgarities and moving along like mindless drones. Generally, the whole argument for them is something like… “It’s MY body, my choice.” Yet, who speaks up for the baby? Who is their advocate? Can you really REALLY believe that the baby, 10 minutes before birth, should not be even considered? Even from a natural standpoint, why do you move mountains to save the snail darter (a fish), bugs, and other endangered species… but you feel comfortable and even justified by butchering innocent human beings.
When exactly do you concede that a baby is a living human being? Applying just a small amount of logic… when you go to the doctor and a heartbeat is located in the middle of your chest, the doctor pays very close attention to it because if it is weak or falters or is irregular, they become alarmed. At least, they typically want to go further to diagnose what is causing the problem because if the heart stops, you die. That strong heartbeat proves you are alive and have a viable future. Generally, a baby’s heart starts beating around 5 weeks into a pregnancy and it can be heard around week 10. I am not a doctor, but logic would dictate that a baby’s heartbeat is proof of life. Think about it.
Lastly, I would ask you to consider this as well. I do NOT want this to sound insensitive or like a cheap shot at any one political group. However, It is odd to me that every time there is a tragic mass shooting, especially if it is at a school, certain political groups act as if the loss of life is hopelessly evil and unthinkable. Yet, that same group celebrates the holocaust of the unborn. Recently, I even saw mainstream media showing protests where women were gleefully shouting they could kill babies if they wanted to. I am not shocked very often, but that was shocking. Equating this whole issue to healthcare rights is so false. However, for those who provide these barbaric services – making lots of money from them – I guess you have to assuage your own sensibilities somehow.

Dear Christian, if you somehow struggle with all of this, remember that we are to be unique people in our devotion to God who is the author of life. Do not allow the prevailing culture cause you to waiver. Here are a few scripture references to help reign in the doubt:

Psalm 139:13-16… in the womb, you were wonderfully made by God.
Jeremiah 1:5… God has has a plan for your life, instituted at the moment of conception.
Luke 1:41… as with John in the presence of Jesus, the unborn have a level of perception.
