Remember that, my friend (see the post title). As I write this little message to you, I am also reminding myself again of that Biblical truth. In the book of John, eighth chapter, verse forty-four, Jesus said this to a group of religious leaders:
Indeed, that old serpent, the enemy of our collective soul, hates us and lies to us so much that he has convinced some of our number to embrace the lies that he propagates which are an offense to God and His creation. The devil continues to whisper in your ear…
Who do you think you are? You are a nobody from a poor, troubled family! You can’t really make a difference in this world. Or…
Hey, you cannot outrun the past. Everyone knows that you are a failure… a disappointment to everyone who loves you. You’re pathetic! Or…
Those church people don’t care for you… not really. Especially those high-paid “pastors” who only want a cushy life, telling others how bad they are. Ugh.
Resist and he, the devil, will run away from you. Your resistance cannot simply be based on your own human logic though. It has to be grounded in scriptural truth. So, when he starts whispering those pitiful sentiments in your ear, remind him of what scripture says. These are the words that come from His Word and have authority.
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. – Romans 8:16-17
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, – John 1:12
For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. – Galatians 3:26
Wrapping up… if you are a believer, a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, you are a child of God. You have value and much worth. You are an heir to a Kingdom that is more glorious than your mind can comprehend. Do your best to walk in that station of life and remember… the devil is a liar. Amen.
