Yesterday, a group of us… Jared Okoth, Buddy Belew, Jacob Yohannan, Richard Bragg, and I got together to host a witnessing seminar at Poplar Heights Baptist Church. We had a few people come to participate on a very hot day. We had some of our Gathering friends and PHBC members attend.
During our time there, we covered a lot of information about power evangelism, lifestyle evangelism, Biblical foundations of evangelism, and some nuts and bolts tips along with a couple of witnessing tools.
After the event, we shared a nice meal that was prepared by the the student minister’s wife (sorry, don’t know her name). It was very tasty! After that, we all got into the church van and went to the neighborhood across the street from the church and did an old-school activity… door to door evangelism. As we knocked on doors, we met some lovely people. We shared testimony, prayed with a few folks, and met others who were connected to local ministries. We also left invitation / door hangers for those who were not at home. All in all, it was a great experience and we hope to follow-up with more such outings after the weather fairs upo a bit and the temps decrease.
Some out there – in the church world – assume and even advocate that the days of this type of outreach are “in the past” and are no longer effective. I have strong opinions as to why they “feel” that way, but that is a story for another time 🙂
